  • Migration: To move from one place and settle in another.
  • Emigration: Leaving your home to move elsewhere
  • Immigration: Arriving in a new place to live
  • Push Factors are factors that encourage emigration from a place.
  • Pull Factors are factors that encourage immigration to a place.
  • Counter-stream: things that make people want to return home after they have migrated
Chain migration: where a small number of people make the first moves to set up a new home in a new place. They send information back home, and this encourages further migration.
